Early Intervention orthodontics
Orthodontics is the area of dentistry which treats problems in the alignment of teeth and jaws. A beautiful smile can greatly increase self confidence leading to success in all areas of life. With regular dental checkups and good oral hygiene, your smile will last of lifetime. An orthodontic problem is called a malocclusion, this means the teeth are either crooked or protruding, or the jaws may be too small.
Orthodontic treatment is no longer just for children and teenagers. These days more and more adults are seeking treatment.
Our Practice Offers
Early Treatment
The ideal age for a child to have their first orthodontic evaluation is 7 years old. Even if treatment is not necessary at this stage, early evaluation allows for timely detection of problems so that growth and development can be monitored and treatment started at the ideal time. Appropriate intervention can influence growth and development, preventing more serious problems later.
The main purpose of early intervention treatment is to guide permanent teeth into their correct position
and enhance growth and development of the jaws
The main goals for early treatment are:
⦁ Create room for crowded, erupting teeth
⦁ Establish facial symmetry or balance by modifying jaw growth
⦁ Lower the risk of trauma to protruding front teeth
⦁ Reduce the need for tooth extraction in the future
⦁ Simplify and/or shorten treatment time for later corrective orthodontics
⦁ Correct harmful oral habits (eg thumb sucking, tongue thrust swallow)
⦁ Improve self-esteem
⦁ Help correct unhealthy breathing patterns
